Worth fixing or my engine fried?

I got an oil change on my 95 Lumina sedan about two weeks before there was a small jurk and loss of power from my engine while driving. I noticed the oil light come on and quickly pulled off and turned the car off. The heat gauge was normal. I was less than a mile from home. I called a friend. He was able to start it up again and drive it home (stalling a few times). Checked the oil and it showed over full. But when looking in my engine- there was no oil! My engine sounds horrible and rocks when it is on (I only turn it on for a few seconds). Also tried draining some oil in hopes that it may restart the oil pump. No luck. I am pretty sure the oil pump is bad because of no oil is getting to engine. The question I have though... how do I know if my engine is fried? I have had people tell me both ways. Some think it is some not. I am willing to fix the oil pump...but if the engine is fried I dont want to waste the money. I would like know before I do anything if it is worth fixing. Please help!!Worth fixing or my engine fried?
It's toast.Worth fixing or my engine fried?
The problem you get from no oil is friction which causes heat. If this happened for an extended period of time, it can cause some serious problems like your pistons locking up. I think that if you get the oil pump checked out, that's a start. Also if your friend was able to get it started and moved home, I don't think that any serious damage was done, just have your car towed to wherever you're going to get the pump fixed.Worth fixing or my engine fried?
Spin the engine over by hand with a long handle ratchet. It the engine spins without the feeling of binding or any unhealthy noise try changing the pump. If you get binding or ugly noises start looking for an engine. This is the easiest way to check without removing parts to get a look at whats going on.Worth fixing or my engine fried?
if there was no oil in the engine, then yea, its toast. the engine in that year was not worth a dam. if you hear a knocking sound while its running then you spun a barring.Worth fixing or my engine fried?
HI

First you CAN NOT see the oil in your motor and you well only see a little when it is running by looking at it in the fill hole. If the dip stick said it was full or over full then there was oil in it.. With the motor off all the oil is in the pan at the bottom of the motor...and you can't see in there.

You said there was a jerk and a loss of power.. and you noticed the oil light came on ... when the motor dies or quits the oil light well come on as there well be no oil perisher I think that's what happened. You said it runs very bad .. When it starts does the oil light go out if so ..I think you are having a fuel or tune problem not oil pump. A bad oil pump well not make it run bad . It well just make it noisy and soon kill it as in replacement time for the motor.

good luck
