I need my timing belt replaced but don't know where to go?

so I have a little trust issue. especially when it comes to my car. I don't let anyone drive it but myself. i'm always afraid to give it to mechanics for a fix because I don't know them and I don't know their education.

I live in Portland, OR I have a 2003 honda civic LX and I need to get my timing belt replaced. I have the money for it but I don't know where to go. I was thinking about going to a honda dealership but I heard the mechanics there only know how to change oil and brakes. none of the under the hood stuff. a friend said I should find a shop that says 'imports' on it. because they specialize on hondas. but, most of the mechanics there are young and they look like they don't have much experience or knowledge.

should i be concerned as much as I am about replacing this part or do you guys think it's an easy part to replace?

ps. i'll also be replacing my water pump. it's still working great but my car has 108,000 miles and my warranty will be going out soon. plus you do have to take off the timing belt to replace the pump..I need my timing belt replaced but don%26039;t know where to go?
We have had lots of Hondas and we have 3 currently: 2008 Civic EX, 2009 Civic EX-L, and new 2009 Accord EX. If you go to your nearest Honda dealership, they will fix it for you. Don't listen to rumors because Honda has been in business for a long time and wouldn't be if they couldn't fix things under the hood. But they can. If you don't feel comfortable going to the dealership, then you could visit your local mechanic, but they sometimes don't have the right parts and are inexperienced. My relative has a Lincoln Continental, and the mechanic he went to screwed it up more than it was in the first place. If I were you, I would just go to Honda. Good luck!I need my timing belt replaced but don%26039;t know where to go?
hey man i live in oregon two little town forest grove any way replacing a belt is a really simple procedure shouldn't even take the slowest mechanic in the world but 10 15 minutes if they take longer than that then they are trying to charge you more for there time i have replaced a few when i took auto shop in high school and smaller cars are by far the easiest to change belts on

so i would take it to a local auto shop tell them you just need a belt replaced and you should be in and out in no timeI need my timing belt replaced but don%26039;t know where to go?
Agree with Honda doing the work. Will be done with Honda parts by certified mechanics.I need my timing belt replaced but don%26039;t know where to go?
The Honda mechanics can do it all not just brakes and oil changes.I need my timing belt replaced but don%26039;t know where to go?
Look for a shop that has ASE certified mechanics. ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) requires a mechanic to have at least two years of hands-on experience and they must pass a series of tests to become certified. They also have to recertify periodically. If a mechanic is ASE certified, he will wear his ASE patch on his uniform like a badge of honor. And, you can trust your car repair to this person.I need my timing belt replaced but don%26039;t know where to go?
The mechanics at your Honda dealership should be ASE qualified and additional classes from the Honda company itself. Of course if your Honda dealership only has three cars on the lot then they probably aren't doing to well. Meaning find one that is a real dealership and allow the pros handle this very routine repair. It is probably the most expensive way to go but from your comments I wouldn't dare recommend a local shop.
