Grinding noises coming from car engine?

1996 Chevy Corsida, 108,000 miles. Have owned it for a little over a year.

Maintenance:

Water pump went out last September. Caused belt to break.

Both replaced.

Reguar oil changes

Sounds like grinding or very quick vibrations coming from the right side of my engine around my radiator. I read about this and a lot of people are saying it could be wheel bearings. My dad says it could also be some kind of fan going out.

The vibrations-grinding only happens when I accelerate from a stop and when I let off the gas petal, but not breaking. What is it and how much is it going to cost?Grinding noises coming from car engine?
Sounds like a CV joint has failed. The Corsica is a very simple car to service, the CV is a fifty dollar part, labor could run 150 to replace depending on who services it, might as well change the wheel bearings while they are off. There is only one fan in the car it is the radiator fan and acceleration has nothing to do with noises at acceleration, Besides when the radiator fans die in GM's they die with a wimper no noise.Grinding noises coming from car engine?
Generally speaking when you hear a noise that is present on acceleration and deceleration only it most likely something in the driveline. In this case you have a front wheel drive car and there are two possibilities, the %26quot;CV Joint%26quot;, and a %26quot;wheel bearing.%26quot; A CV (Constant Velocity) Joint is like a universal joint and is that thing under the car that has a big rubber boot on it. Sometimes that rubber boot can get damged and let water in. that will destroy the unit. To replace this at the service station can cost a couple hundred dollars. The other option, the wheel bearing (and BTW at 100,00+ miles you're due) would cost about the same price. Be prepared for the mechanic to try and sell you a lot of other things with that kind of mileage.. weigh the options of how much its going to cost you vs. the value of the vehicleGrinding noises coming from car engine?
If it's coming from inside the engine compartment, it could be one of your fan belt pulleys, the alternator, or your water pump again. Try and get a little closer when you hear it so you can narrow it down.....Not too close!
