my online reference is having a bad day. but as i remember it, this the the first production year of the 4.6l sohc modular motor, and the only motor offered in this model.
the oil pump is behind the timing gear at the front of the motor. you don't have to pull the motor or drop the pan. that's on the windsor/clevland/mod motors, and would only require one to partially drop the pan and reach ones hands in there and pull it blind or drop a steering rod.
yours is much more involved.
you have to pull the accessories, valve/cam covers and T-gears/chain. and maybe the radiator for ease of access.
and you will need a manual. and since it's such a pita to do, and you're there, your gonna want to replace your T- chain/gears and water pump.

It's hard. If you are unwilling to buy a manual, I assume you do not have the type of equipment needed for the repair. However, your could try local libraries. They often have manuals and since the GMQ has been around for 31 years, you should be able to find the right one.
