No Oil Presure 1999 Grand Am 3.4L OHV engine?

1999 Grand Am 3.4L OHV engine and I have no oil pressure and changed the pump but still no oil pressure and would like to see if the linkage to the cam is connected properly or perhaps broke. How would I go about this or could there be other problems. Any suggestions would be helpful. No Oil Presure 1999 Grand Am 3.4L OHV engine?
If the engine runs and there isn't any oil pressure you would be hearing a horrible noise and your engine would have some severe damage.

There is a linkage between the back of the cam and the oil pump that may have failed but it's not common.

If you want to check this you have to remove the upper manifold and pull the oil pump drive gear out of the top of the block directly below the throttle body. You will have to remove the single 15mm bolt and hold down clamp, then grasp it with a vise grip and give it a twist to wiggle it loose and then yank it directly upward to pull it out.

There's an o-ring on there that you can buy at an auto parts store for 79 cents. You want to replace that, they always dry out, crack, and leak like mad. If the gear on the end of that shaft you just pulled is ok, go ahead and check that hex shaft that you saw when you changed the pump. It should fit into the bottom of that shaft, and into the top of the oil pump.

You may want to check that gear on the cam that meshes with the gear on the shaft although typically the cam is made of a much harder metal than the gear you pulled out.

If you haven't found the problem by that point you may want to try turning the pump with a drill motor and a long allen/hex bit untill you figure out where your pressure is going.

If you can't get the hex shaft out, or you don't have a long hex bit, you usually can put a deep 3/8%26quot;x1/4%26quot; drive socket in there with an extension to prime the pump manually. If you turn it the right way with a drill motor you should feel signifigant resistance as the oil pressure builds.

Ps. Only 15% is filtered on my 51 Buick, but on modern engines it all is. It flows directly from the pump through the filter, and THEN goes throughout the engine. No Oil Presure 1999 Grand Am 3.4L OHV engine?
